Have a proper conversation

Welcome to our little corner of England!

We are here to reach out to,
serve, connect and support everybody in the villages and hamlets surrounding
St Margaret's.  We strive to be a welcoming and friendly Benefice and look forward to meeting you on your faith journey.

Looking out...

Jacinda Adern, New Zealand's impressive Prime Minister, has announced legislation to ban all military style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles, their related parts and high-capacity magazines  - anyone else really wish New Zealand was a world super-power right now?

Cyclone Idai has devastated Mozabique and adjoining countries - the city of Beira looks akin to Aleppo, with its shattered buildings and unrecognisable streets, with the added misery of flood waters.  Keep these resiliant people in your prayers and support the aid agencies that are tirelessly trying to bring relief to yet another part of the world that suffers.

New Zealand suffers deeply as hatred and bigotry express their bile as murder
- 50 people died in their places of worship, dozens injured.  No one should die because they have faith in God; no one should die because they wear clothes of a different style; no one should die because they speak a different language.  Will we be looking at white male twentysomethings with the same caution as if the cultures in this tragedy were the other way round?

Lent_postcard_2019_side_1Lent is now upon us - the year progresses so quickly, it's hard sometimes to slow down and make time for these significant markers in our church calendar. How do we 'do' Lent?  Do we give up something?  Take something on?  Make a longer lasting change?   Whatever we decide to do, or not do, it's best done in a prayerful way, trying to deepen our connection to God and discern what path He wants us to follow.  Easier said than done, as are most things worthwhile, but maybe together we can find a way
to have better conversations with God during our everyday lives.  Prayer isn't something reserved for an hour on a Sunday.  We all have an inner monologue going on in our heads (I'm sure it's not just me!) - perhaps we can redirect it towards someone who's always listening.  To help you on your journey this Lent, we have produced a postcard, with a beautiful picture created by Alexandra LeRossignol, on the front, with a selection of resources on the back to guide you through.  They are available at all the churches in the Benefice.

Gargoyles Galore! - Margaret Scott and her grandchildren had a creative and informative visit to Canterbury Cathedral in the half term holiday.  You can find out more by clicking here.

Looking for a meaningful way to use your time and skills? - Maria Skobtsova House and Caritas France are part of the church's response to refugee needs in Calais.  They are looking for volunteers over the age of 18, for a minimum of 1 month, to help in different operations in aid of refugees. There are many varied roles you could fulfil and if you want to find out more, please email for an information sheet and application form.
A 2% drop in rough sleepers last year hailed as an achievement - what do we call the 165% rise in numbers since 2010?  Please think about supporting charities that help the homeless and vulnerable - they are the ones working on the frontline, picking up the pieces, day after day.  Humanity is not reserved only for those with a roof over their heads, everyone deserves dignity.
